He had me at "hello".

I tutor a 14 y.o. boy who has a 4 1/2 y.o. little brother. Several months ago while I was talking to their mother, the 4 1/2 y.o. blurts out that he can't understand a word I'm saying. Yea dude, I know my accent sucks.

Several weeks ago as I'm leaving, he slowly walks down the stairs and spots me, but says nothing. His mom reminds him to say "good-bye" to me so he raises his hand in a "talk to the hand" sort of gesture, but says nothing . I laughed because it was too adorable and just did the same thing back to him. The next week, I barely had entered the house and hear him greet me with a very enthusiastic "Bonjour Emily!!!". I was shocked. He spoke to me. That very same day, while I'm getting ready to leave, I hear him say "Au revoir Emily!!!". I melted. And this week? He greeted me with a very energetic "Hello Emily!!!". His mom obviously influenced this behavior, but I just don't care. Swoon.

he probably remembered you waving at him, and asked his mom about you. all it takes sometimes is that little movement to acknowledge a child, they fall in love, and want to know everything about you! hahaha

Today, you're a relative stranger - tomorrow, he's your new best friend. Too cute! What is it about children's voices that get right into the tiny places in our hearts?
