I ate frog.
Does that bring me one step closer to becoming a true resident of France? My friends (Hi Sonia and Erwan) made me try it. Surprisingly, it wasn't so scary. What's it taste like? Chicken. Really. What's it look like? Uh, dead frog legs drowning in yummy juices and herbs, thus I couldn't look at it as I was pulling away the meat from what was once "Kermit". I've never seen a plate full of frog legs disappear in so few seconds before. Note: I only ate one. They also made me try some sort of intestines. It had a similar consistency to that of chicken skin. This all took place at a Lyonnaise restaurant in Grenoble. Those in Lyon don't like to waste one bit of the dead animal. I saw (almost) everything on the menu at this place. I think they should have a new motto like: "Visit Lyon, we eat it all."

fun! the first (and only) time I had frog legs was at a chinese buffet in quebec. you could have them any way you like them, bbq, fried or sauteed...
poor kermie!
Hey Emily, it's been ages since I had frog's legs, but I remember that I used to LOVE them -- seriously! I had them first when I was a student, and I used to enjoy the licking of the fingers for all the garlic and parsley -- does that make me super-gross?
Trust me, you'll get used to all the weird things on the menu with time. I never thought I would be able to eat boudin -- blood sausage! -- but I recently tried it again and found it wasn't as bad as I thought... If it's well prepared. I think that's definitely the key. Still can't do the intestines thing, though, no matter how hard I try. I draw the line at certain *ahem* delicacies... And I won't order them in restaurants. My boyfriend says I'm boring because I almost ALWAYS order duck -- in some form or another, but mainly the magret.
But Lyon -- ah, la ville gastronomique de France ! -- I've only been there once, 13 years ago if you can believe it, when I was first a student in France. I really liked it there. I need to get back again, one of these days...
OMG... I've eaten a lot of things (including baby octopus (eew)) but I have NEVER been brave enough to try eating Kermit... :P
its funny how Kermit is the first thing everyone thinks of, isnt one of the muppet movies based on him running away from a guy who is opening a frog leg resturant?
Hi Emily,
How are you doing ?
I have not eaten frogs legs yet.
I'am sure if a friend proposed the dish ( w/out saying it was frog legs), I would have at least tried one.. .
I tried forg legs once, in a French/Asian restaurant in New York City. Ehh. Now, have you eaten escargot, too? I tried that once, too. Tasted like garlic butter.
you're one brave woman! all i can think about when i hear of frogs legs is the muppet movie and the song / commercial about doc hopper's french fried frogs legs.
Now you just have to give snails a try!
I did try snails awhile ago. Not bad. Not a fan of the texture. I was chewing for days.
