Dear Jennifer,

I received a message from my parents yesterday that a package of books arrived pour moi. Funny, I haven't placed any orders with Amazon US. Who'd be so kind to buy me a gift? So, I hopped onto my Wish List to see what was recently purchased and saw that someone bought me Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen. Once I saw that, I immediately thought of you. Either because we talked about this book before or because it was mentioned a gazillion times in our grad school courses. So, I asked my parents to open the box and find out who the gift was from and voila...it was you.

I can't even express to you in words how kind that was. What a wonderfully sweet surpise. Thank you. I'm truly touched that you thought of me.

Looking forward to your visit in July. Am already thinking about what we're going to eat. :)

Hee, hee, Happy Birthday!!! I'm so glad the book came - but a little bummed it ended up in the US. (I wasn't sure what address was on there, and I didn't want to spoil the surprise!) Oh well, a treat no matter where it is...

There should be another book too? Don't know if it came in the same box, but I think I ordered you two books.

Anyways, you *know* I can't wait to see Paris, Annecy, and YOU (not in this order necessarily) this summer. I am trying to learn some French and I feel your pain. C'est la vie, yes? :)

We drink the boxed wine quite a bit. It doesn't taste any differently but it isn't as special as opening a bottle somehow, plus I tend to drink it faster from the box. hic. Just found your blog-from your visit to mine. I was married in a small village near Annecy. I love Annecy, especially the old city and that fabulous lake. Keep going on the French. I sort of gave up after a while and am very sorry that I did.

This is a wonderful book! I learned a lot from it.

And Happy Birthday! :-)

PS--Your Mom is obviously very smart to choose a trip to Powells as a brithday gift.
