What a week?!
I've been home a week and already I've struck gold twice. Earlier this week, we had dinner at a friend's house and I was mentioning to him that we don't have an oven. He immediately offers up his old oven. Score. He tells me it's as old as he is...late 20s...but makes fantastic gateaus. Works for me. Here's a photo of the oven. You might be thinking, "Isn't that a toaster oven, Emily?". No, people of the United States (I watched too much Colbert Report while visiting the US). That is our new oven. You probably won't see me bake dozen's o' cookies in that thing or roast a chicken, but hey, we take what we can get over here. My goal for the day? Learn how to make quiches. We're in France now. Must eat like the French eat.
Next treasure of the week...a friend of mine works at the pro shop for a major French ski equipment and clothing retailer. Last night, they were in dire need of extra help doing inventory at their new store. She told her boss about me, but that I can't work for de l'argent. So instead they can pay me in product. Score #2. When can I get on the next bus to Albertville? For 6 hours, my friend and I count hundreds of items for their stock count. Don't be jealous. In return, I got a new ski jacket, ski gloves, and a purse. It's not Euros in the bank, but now I can ski in style.

C'est superiure, Emily. Great oven, great about you making quiche. But you've got to admit, it does look like a toaster oven. We don't have an oven in our atelier, just a two burner electric burner thingy. However, one can make entire meals this way. Have fun learning new things to cook.
