Happy one month anniversary to me.

I can't believe I've been here for a month. It feels like I just arrived yesterday. While D's been in Germany attending a trade show for the past 4 days, I've been so incredibly busy with...school...sleep...nutrition...and reading "Life of Pi". Half the book is about the main character on a lifeboat with a tiger? I hope I can make it to the end.

One of my classmates' last day of school was yesterday. She and her husband treated the class to fondue/raclette dinner last night. I was in h-e-a-v-e-n and now have no desire to touch cheese fondue for at least another year...okay, maybe just a month. She's American/Russian and we related a lot to one another as we discussed how much we despise our prez. I will truly miss her and her "mothering" during my first month in France...especially when I was incredibly homesick.

So the air in Annecy is very, very dry right now so my skin is cracking and peeling like crazy. I have a lot of deep cuts all over my hands and fingers from the lack of moisture I've been applying to them...my fault. A few weeks ago, I walked into one of the thousands of Pharmacies in Annecy and immediately told the woman that I don't speak French and then proceeded to point to a word in my French cahier (= notebook) which was of a medicine my professor recommended after she looked at the many Band-Aids covering my fingers. The medicine is incredibly fascinating. It's called "Urgodermyl" and it's this clear liquid that you apply to the cut. It stings at first as it disinfects and then the liquid solidifies into a rubber glue type of substance that sticks to your skin and covers the cut while it heals. It's magic! At the moment, it's all over my hands, but at least I'm not covering my hands with many Sesame Street Band-Aids.

My new favorite French word: donc (= so). Donc donc donc...

Sounds like France and your politics are a perfect fit.

Once I wanted to buy "life of Pi", but I didn't because I knew I wouldn't finish it.^^""
