French initiation.

Yesterday, TH, our visitor, and I spent the day in Lyon. Hiking to the cathedral, having a delicious lunch at a bouchon (no tripe this time), strolling along the streets, and preventing myself from entering a Starbucks filled our day. We missed the bus that would take us back in time for me to make my Wednesday evening tutoring session. We then bought tickets for the next train to Annecy but that train never shows up on the screen to let us know which platform to go to and Darin soon found out that all direct trains to Annecy were canceled due to a strike. Lovely. We, along with 4 others who are trying to get back to Annecy, make an unsuccessful stink at the reception area. Our only option was to take a local train to Chambery which stopped at, what seemed like, 50 towns in between Lyon and Chambery. Then we waited an hour in Chambery and before hopping onto the next train to Annecy. We made it 3 hours later than planned and on our walk back home John successfully steps in dog shit. All in all, it was a noteworthy day for John...a warm welcome to this wonderful country we call, France.

Good times!! Makes for great travel stories. Not a comfort when it's happening, but when you get home, it sure makes you look good to the non-travellers you talk to.
