Freaking out over French food.

Last night, TH and I were invited over to a friend's house for dinner. This is a friend who wanted to serve us a true French meal. We started out with a homemade salmon terrine. It was delicious. Next, she served us little birds, like pigeon (remember my Valentine's Day experience with pigeon?), which looked like...little birds with their head's cut off, with a piece of bacon tied around their little bodies, and then cooked. I had a very difficult time eating it and not publicly cringing, so I concentrated hard on my goal: to eat a juicy piece of meat. I tried not to think about how I was cutting into this little bird. In the end, I filled up on rice drenched in the juice from the meat. Dessert was a moist cake, thanks to the liquor she added to it, and covered in fresh fruit. After drinking a lot of good wine and champagne and feeling satiated, we stumbled home and into bed for a long and deep night's sleep.

Sounds like a good night out, even with the bird - was it squab, by any chance? Not sure what that would be in French...
