Wow, everyone here speaks English.

Salut from NYC. The customs officer at JFK put a permanent smile on my face when he said, "Welcome back". It took me a moment to realize that he's welcoming me back to my home country. It's so good to be back. But, as I walk around this crazy city, I do miss the calmness of Annecy. First shock for me? Everyone (okay, most people) here speaks English! Whenever I hear it, I'll look to see who it is, as if there are very few of us here who speak English and I'm a part of that small group. Duh. As soon as I landed, I walked over to a drugstore to stock up on some of my favorite drugstore items. New Hello Kitty Band-aids!? Yes, I'm a dork. Last night, my sister and I dined at a local vegetarian restaurant. Veggie burgers and soy milkshakes. Think I could ever find that in France?

It's always a breath of fresh air to go home but after a few weeks that air becomes stale and you want to come back home to France. At least that's how I always feel.

It would be so nice to be able to have a home in both countries, unlimited airfare money and not have the confines of a job so you could go back and forth on a whim.

Hahahaha, I *love* it - "everyone speaks english." Oh, Emily, you and me are such a pair of peas in a pod. The summer after I turned 21 my parents and I travelled to Seattle (my birthplace). What did I notice at the airport? "Wow, you guys, look at all the Washington license plates!" The story has gone down in family legend. Never let it be said that we aren't observant!! Enjoy NY and its culinary diversity.

Man, I'm already jealous. All that English? Hello Kitty band-aids? If you even dare write that you've been to a big Borders bookstore or anything like that, I'll be green with envy!!

My family dog is actually a Briard. A LOT larger than a Wheaton Terrier. Thanks for reading my blog. :)
